According to British media reports, the "Variable Wing" unmanned aerial vehicle jointly developed by two British companies recently conducted its first flight demonstration. This type of drone adopts a unique inclined folding wing, which can switch between fixed wing and rotor modes during flight, increasing the payload and range of the aircraft and enhancing combat capabilities. When unmanned aerial vehicles use fixed wing flight, they can obtain greater lift with less power; After switching to rotor mode, the drone's body becomes smaller, allowing for vertical takeoff, landing, or hovering in narrow spaces or harsh environments.
The report stated that the first flight demonstration was conducted using a smaller electric version of the "Variable Wing" drone. Its payload capacity is 6.8 kilograms, maximum flight speed is 120 kilometers per hour, and range is 111 kilometers. This type of drone has strong maneuverability and over the horizon communication capability, making it suitable for civilian transportation or military missions.
