Canada's Cavorite X7 Completes Major Technical Upgrade: Hybrid eVTOL Opens a New Aviation Track

22

On January 31, 2026, Canada-based Horizon Aircraft officially launched the major upgraded version of its 6-seat hybrid eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft), the Cavorite X7. Focusing on the optimization of the core power system, this upgrade innovatively adopts 12 standardized lift fans, achieving dual breakthroughs in range and speed simultaneously. Coupled with the successful landing of CAD 24 million in financing and the clear plan for airworthiness certification in 2027, it not only demonstrates the aircraft's strong technological strength but also injects robust momentum into the commercialization of the global hybrid eVTOL industry, opening up a new imagination space for regional air transportation.

As Horizon Aircraft's flagship model, the core highlight of the Cavorite X7's technical upgrade this time is the full application of 12 standardized lift fans. This improvement has completely solved the industry pain points of low efficiency and complex maintenance of the lift system of the previous generation model. It is reported that before the upgrade, the aircraft was equipped with 14 lift fans, among which the wing fans and canard fans had different geometric dimensions, leading to cumbersome manufacturing processes and high maintenance costs. This upgrade replaced 4 small canard fans with 2 units of the same specification as the wing fans, realizing the standardization and unification of 12 lift fans. The layout of 5 fans on each wing plus 1 fan on each side of the canard not only ensures the stability of vertical lift but also greatly improves manufacturing efficiency and simplifies the subsequent maintenance process. At the same time, the lift system is powered by a redundant dual-motor architecture, which further optimizes flight performance without reducing safety, providing double guarantee for the stability of vertical take-off and landing.

The leapfrog improvement in performance parameters has made the Cavorite X7 stand out among similar global models. The upgraded Cavorite X7 has a maximum range of 800 kilometers and a top speed increased to 454 kilometers per hour, far exceeding the performance level of current mainstream pure electric eVTOLs and even comparable to some traditional fixed-wing aircraft. This breakthrough is attributed to the mature application of the hybrid power architecture. The aircraft adopts the Pratt & Whitney PT6A turboprop engine as the power core, paired with an electric lift system, realizing efficient coordination of "fuel power generation + battery energy storage". It can not only provide continuous power for flight and charge the battery in real time through the fuel engine but also achieve vertical take-off and landing with the help of the electric lift system, completely solving the core pain points of short range and difficult charging of pure electric eVTOLs. In addition, the aircraft has also optimized the aerodynamic shape of the canard and tail to reduce flight resistance, while extending the cabin length and optimizing the front window design, providing a more comfortable riding experience for 6 passengers plus 1 pilot.

The successful arrival of CAD 24 million in financing has provided solid financial support for the subsequent R&D, prototype manufacturing and airworthiness certification promotion of the Cavorite X7. It is reported that in addition to this working capital, Horizon Aircraft has also won CAD 10.5 million in sustainable aviation technology subsidies. The funds will be mainly used for the final assembly and commissioning of the full-scale prototype, supply chain improvement and all-weather flight technology R&D. At present, the company has established cooperation with leading industry enterprises such as North Aircraft Industries and RAMPF Composite Solutions, which are responsible for the manufacturing and testing of the wing and fuselage respectively. The core supply chain has gradually taken shape. It is planned to complete the final assembly of the full-scale prototype by the end of 2026, start ground testing in early 2027, and officially launch the airworthiness certification process in the same year, which is expected to become the first hybrid eVTOL model in the same class to obtain all-weather airworthiness certification.

From the perspective of industry development, the major technical upgrade of the Cavorite X7 not only promotes the iterative maturity of hybrid eVTOL technology but also has important leading significance for the development of the global low-altitude economy. At present, the low-altitude economy has entered a period of rapid development. As the core carrier of low-altitude transportation, the market demand for eVTOLs continues to rise, but the performance limitations of pure electric models have restricted the commercialization of the industry. The launch of the upgraded Cavorite X7 proves that the hybrid architecture is an effective path to solve the range anxiety of eVTOLs and realize large-scale application. Its 800-kilometer range can cover various scenarios such as intercity commuting, medical emergency, emergency rescue and cargo transportation, providing a new solution for the diversified application of low-altitude transportation.

Brandon Robinson, CEO of Horizon Aircraft, said that this technical upgrade is the result of collaborative R&D between the team and international designers. The company is always committed to building the safest and most high-performance modern eVTOL model. In the future, it will continue to promote technical optimization and gradually realize the full electrification transformation of the model when battery technology matures. With the advancement of airworthiness certification and the continuous improvement of the supply chain, the Cavorite X7 is expected to complete Canadian type certification in 2028, achieve commercialization, and further promote the transformation of global air transportation.

In summary, the major technical upgrade of the Cavorite X7 is an important milestone in the development of the hybrid eVTOL industry. The application of the standardized lift system, the breakthrough in performance parameters, the landing of financing and the clarity of airworthiness planning have jointly built the core competitiveness of the aircraft. Against the background of the rapid rise of the low-altitude economy, this model is not only expected to rewrite the pattern of regional air transportation but also provide valuable experience for the technological innovation and commercialization of the global eVTOL industry, promoting the aviation field to move towards a more efficient, flexible and sustainable direction.
