Boeing’s Subsidiary Wisk Aero Completes Maiden Flight of 6th-Generation Fully Autonomous Pilotless eVTOL

Boeing’s Subsidiary Wisk Aero Completes Maiden Flight of 6th-Generation Fully Autonomous Pilotless eVTOL

Author: Backhouse Global Low-Altitude Economic Network

In December 2025, Wisk Aero, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing, successfully completed the full-state maiden flight of its sixth-generation fully autonomous pilotless manned eVTOL in California, USA. The aircraft accomplished all core flight subjects including vertical takeoff and landing, low-altitude hovering, long-distance level flight, and attitude adjustment with all flight parameters meeting design standards, marking a new iteration stage for global unmanned low-altitude passenger transportation technology. As the world’s only eVTOL enterprise with six generations of technical iteration experience, Wisk Aero has long focused on fully autonomous pilotless low-altitude aircraft. Different from the mainstream manned or semi-autonomous technical routes in the industry, Wisk adheres to the pilot-free and full-autonomous flight solution, establishing itself as a benchmark in the global unmanned low-altitude passenger sector. The sixth-generation model adopts a four-seat manned configuration with no manual control cockpit device. The entire flight process is independently completed by self-developed flight control systems, intelligent perception systems, and autonomous obstacle avoidance systems without any human intervention, which greatly reduces operational labor costs and eliminates human operation risks. As of the maiden flight, the company’s aircraft have accumulated more than 1,750 test flights, capturing massive flight data under complex airspace and meteorological conditions, providing solid data support for airworthiness certification and commercialization. At present, Wisk Aero is sprinting for FAA’s full airworthiness certification for fully autonomous manned eVTOLs, striving to become the world’s first enterprise qualified for fully unmanned low-altitude passenger operation. While most global low-altitude passenger enterprises remain in manned or semi-autonomous stages, full unmanned intelligence represents the ultimate development direction and the core key to large-scale popularization of low-altitude transportation. Leveraging Boeing’s profound aviation manufacturing foundation, Wisk Aero’s in-depth layout in the unmanned low-altitude track continues to lead global technological innovation. The successful maiden flight of the sixth-generation model consolidates America’s technical advantages in unmanned low-altitude passenger transportation, clarifies the technical path for global intelligent and unmanned low-altitude traffic, and promotes the cross-industry upgrade of the low-altitude economy from manned pilot trials to formal unmanned commercial operations.
